Dog Hair, Farm Dust and Straw in a Working Cab

The three interior packages do different jobs, and matching the right one to the mess saves you money.

Dog Hair, Farm Dust and Straw in a Working Cab

If you drive a truck or SUV in the Foothills, you already know the cab picks up more than a commuter car does. Dog hair finds the seat seams, barn dust settles into the vents, and straw and hay work their way under the seats where a household vacuum can't reach. Cleaning that kind of interior is a different job from tidying up after a road trip, and the three interior packages at Urban Auto Detail map onto it pretty directly.

Why dog hair and straw are so hard to remove

Short, stiff hairs and straw stems don't sit on top of fabric. They weave in, pushed down every time someone slides across the seat or steps on the carpet. A vacuum alone pulls the loose layer and leaves the rest. Dust is a different problem: it's fine enough to travel into the dash vents, seat tracks, door pockets and the gap along the centre console, and it comes back out every time you turn the fan on.

That's why the order of work matters. Loosen first, then lift, then clean. A package that skips the loosening step just moves debris around.

Quick Interior: for upkeep

The Quick Interior takes about 2 hours and runs from $179 for a coupe or sedan, $199 for a five-seat truck or SUV and $219 for a three-row vehicle. It starts with an interior blowout using an air compressor, which pushes debris out of seams and crevices before the vacuum goes in. Then come a full vacuum, wiped and protected hard surfaces, wiped and dressed floor mats, streak-free glass and a carpet protectant.

This is the right package when the cab is dusty and lived-in but not neglected, or when you want to keep a clean interior clean. The trunk isn't included.

Interior Refresh: where the steam comes in

Interior Refresh, from $229 and about 2 hours 30 minutes, adds steam cleaning to the blowout and vacuum: steam-cleaned hard surfaces, every crevice brushed and cleaned, and floor mats washed rather than just wiped. Urban Auto Detail uses steam cleaners because, in their words, steam kills bacteria and eliminates odours. That matters in a cab that has carried a wet dog or a hot lunch bag through August.

Steam also loosens grime from textured plastics and seams without drenching them. It's a good fit for a family truck or SUV that's seen real use but doesn't have deep stains in the cloth.

Interior Reset: the three-step shampoo

Interior Reset, from $299 and about 3 hours, includes everything in Refresh and adds a three-step shampoo, a UV protectant on the dashboard, protected floor mats, dressed leather and spot treatment for stains. Choose it when the fabric itself is the problem: embedded hair, set-in stains, or carpets that have had a season of farm boots on them. Steam loosens and lifts. A shampoo works through the fibre itself.

What customers have said

Sarah had two of her cars detailed at home on a rainy morning, with the cats and dogs causing chaos and her keys locked in a car. She said Diego and Abby stayed calm and professional through all of it. Her car had dog hair practically woven into the fabric, and she was very impressed with the result.

Emily had an SUV that hadn't looked that clean since she bought it in 2016. She said they spent extra time because it was so dirty, and charged only a nominal extra fee. Gavin and his fiancee had the insides of a Jeep Trailhawk and a RAM Rebel done and said the quality of the workmanship was excellent for the price.

Odour, leather and the extras

If the smell is the main complaint, Odour Removal is $149 and takes about an hour. Leather Ceramic Coating protects leather seats against stains, UV and cracking: $149 for a coupe or sedan, $169 for a truck or SUV and $199 for a seven-seater. Both can be added to an interior package so the work happens in one visit.

Practical details

Interior work needs a power outlet at your place but no water hookup. You don't have to be home as long as the team can get into the vehicle. They cover High River, Okotoks, Diamond Valley, Nanton and South Calgary with no travel fee, and payment is due when the work is finished. If you're not completely happy, Urban Auto Detail says they'll make it right.
